Vikas Gupta Appointed India CEO Of Himalaya Wellness Company

Himalaya Wellness Company has appointed Vikas Gupta as its India CEO, bringing in a consumer-business leader whose career spans FMCG, beauty and wellness, e-commerce, retail, marketing and business transformation.

Gupta arrives at Himalaya with experience across both established consumer companies and newer digital-led businesses. His previous assignments have included leadership roles at VLCC, Nykaa, Flipkart and Unilever, with responsibilities ranging from P&L management and brand building to customer growth, digital commerce and business transformation.

His appointment places an executive with more than two decades of experience in consumer markets at the helm of Himalaya’s India operations as the company continues to build on its herbal wellness and consumer healthcare portfolio.

From VLCC transformation to Himalaya

Before joining Himalaya Wellness Company, Gupta served as Managing Director and Group CEO of VLCC, where his mandate centred on business transformation and value creation.

During his tenure, VLCC’s clinic network expanded from approximately 90 locations to 170, while the business also moved into new growth areas and increased its focus on a services-led model.

That assignment followed Gupta’s stint at Nykaa, where he served as CEO of SuperStore by Nykaa, Nykaa Pro and Nykaa International.

At Nykaa, Gupta helped build the company’s digital-first B2B beauty commerce platform. The business expanded its reach to more than 150,000 retailers across over 650 cities, giving him direct experience in scaling a technology-led distribution platform across a large and fragmented market.

A customer and marketing role at Flipkart

Gupta also worked as Chief Customer and Marketing Officer at Flipkart, where his responsibilities covered customer and marketing strategy.

His remit included customer growth, lifetime value, data-led capital allocation and collaboration across product, supply chain and category teams. During this period, he contributed to growth in monthly active customers and transactions.

The role added a large-scale e-commerce dimension to a career that had already been shaped by consumer brands, sales, marketing and category leadership.

More than 21 years at Unilever

A significant part of Gupta’s career was spent at Unilever, where he worked for more than 21 years across India, South Asia and international markets.

Among his senior assignments, Gupta served as Executive Director, Home Care and Board Member at Unilever Indonesia, where he led an approximately $1 billion Home Care P&L.

His earlier roles included Vice President, Laundry South Asia; Global Vice President, Dirt is Good; Marketing Director, Asia, Fabric Care; and Global Project Leader, Marketing Excellence.

His work at Unilever also covered brand, innovation, sales and customer development responsibilities involving consumer brands including Surf Excel, Omo, Persil, Lux and Dove.

The breadth of those assignments gave Gupta exposure to brand building and commercial leadership across multiple markets before he moved into senior roles in e-commerce, beauty and wellness.

Consumer businesses remain the common thread

Although Gupta’s career has moved across FMCG, e-commerce, beauty and wellness, a consistent theme has been consumer-facing businesses undergoing either growth or transformation.

At Unilever, the emphasis was on big brands and sizable categories P&Ls. At Flipkart, customer acquisition and data driven decision making were important. For Nykaa, it was digital first B2B growth whereas VLCC was about scaling up the physical services footprint.

That combination now comes together in his role at Himalaya Wellness Company.

Gupta holds an MBA in Marketing and Finance from the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow, completed between 1996 and 1998.

Himalaya’s nine-decade wellness journey

Himalaya Wellness Company traces its origins to 1930, when founder M. Manal began exploring traditional Ayurvedic knowledge and herbal remedies.

Over the following decades, the company developed a portfolio spanning wellness and personal care, supported by research into herbs and Ayurveda.

Himalaya describes its offering as a “head-to-heel” portfolio, covering everyday health and personal care needs while combining its nature-based wellness heritage with modern research.

With Gupta taking charge of its India operations, the company has chosen a leader whose career has crossed traditional FMCG, digital commerce, beauty services and large-scale consumer businesses.
