Underground electric and telephone cables to be laid in Chidambaram: Tamil Nadu CM Vijay
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Wednesday (September 2, 2026) announced a proposal for establishing an underground cable system for electric and telephone lines, drinking water supply, and underground sewage lines in Chidambaram Municipality to ensure that the car festival of the Nataraja Temple was conducted without any obstacles.
The project would cost ₹36 crore, he said, while making a suo motu statement in the Assembly.
Mr. Vijay also announced a heritage walk facility between Fort St. David and Silver Beach in Cuddalore a cost of ₹8 crore.
Another announcement was the beautification of Kanniyakumari Beach and improvement of facilities for tourists at a cost of ₹50 crore.
