Two held with 1.5 kg marijuana near Chandanagar railway station

Two employees of a private company were arrested after they allegedly brought 1.5 kg of marijuana from Odisha to Hyderabad for sale, the Chandanagar police said.

The accused were identified as Meripati Manoj Kumar, 22, a native of Visakhapatnam, and M. Asha Jyothi, 23, from Mentada in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh.

Acting on information received on September 29, police kept watch near the Chandanagar railway station. The duo allegedly attempted to flee after noticing the police personnel, but were caught.

Police seized 1.5 kg of marijuana, two mobile phones and a polythene cover from their possession.

During questioning, the accused allegedly told investigators that they had purchased marijuana from Kunduli area of Odisha, transported it to Hyderabad, and were selling it in the city.

A case was registered against the duo under Section 8(c) read with Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Samples from the seized contraband are being sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for analysis, police said.
