Students find colleges ‘missing’ when they go for enrolment in professional courses

Some colleges where seats were allotted for professional courses like Engineering, Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT), B.Sc Nursing and others in the 2nd round of CET counselling have been found to be “missing” by students.

When students paid the fee to the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), downloaded the seat confirmation slip, and went to the colleges to enrol, they found that there was no college at the given address.

“I got a seat at Hosmat College of Physiotherapy, Hosmat Hospital Educational Institution, Margath Road, and when I went to the college for admission, I was surprised. The address on the confirmation slip was Hosmat Hospital, but there was no Hosmat College of Physiotherapy. When I inquired about this, the staff said that the BPT college had been closed for two years. I was deeply disappointed,” said Sneha (name changed), a seat aspirant from Bengaluru.

“My son got a seat in Masood College of Physiotherapy in Bikarnkatte, Mangaluru. Instead of a physiotherapy college, the address on the confirmation slip was a nursing college. When the staff was asked about this, the Masood BPT college was at a different address and was very far away, and there is no proper bus or transport system to get there,” said a parent.

Candidates allotted seats at Sushrutha Nursing College, Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana of Anekal Taluk, Bengaluru, also complained to the KEA that there was no college at that particular address and that there was no proper infrastructure at the Chettinad Institute of Nursing Education and Research. Those who opted for B.W. Lions Super Speciality Eye Hospital, J.C. Road, Bengaluru, where Allied Health Science course seats are allocated, said it was closed.

Students who had opted for M.S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences Engineering College, New BEL Road, Bengaluru, have also petitioned the KEA that the college management told them to take admission in the M.S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (Ramaiah Technology Campus), Peenya.

“As the address on the confirmation slip did not include Hosmat College of Physiotherapy, I contacted KEA. The officials said that they would allocate a seat again in the 3rd round of counselling. However, I gave Choice-1 to the seat allotted in the 2nd round, paid the fee and downloaded the confirmation slip. In such a situation, I do not know how I will be allotted a seat in the 3rd round,” said Sneha.

“Most of the professional courses related to health, including BPT, are offered in Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) affiliated colleges. Before submitting the seat matrix, these colleges are inspected by RGUHS and the medical education departments. It is inexcusable that the officials approved the seat matrix without inspecting the colleges,” said Ganesh Prasad, a parent.

B.C. Bhagwan, Vice-Chancellor, RGUHS, said that three or four colleges have shifted to other places as per the new norms. “We have processed the college shifting and sent it to the government. Sometimes, the approval from the government or the relevant documents reaching KEA may be late. As a result, the notification may have been issued to the old address. We will immediately check this matter and take action to resolve the problem.”

Responding to the students’ petitions, the Executive Director of the KEA has written to the Director, Department of Medical Education, and the Principal Secretary, Department of Higher Education, stating that the last date for candidates who have been allotted seats in the 2nd round to report to the college is August 31, 2026, and has requested them to resolve the confusion of the candidates immediately.
