Sonu Nigam apologises to Kannadigas over Pahalgam remark ahead of Bengaluru concert: “Don’t mind saying sorry a thousand times”
Sonu Nigam has apologised to Kannadigas over his controversial remarks linked to the Pahalgam terror attack, ahead of his scheduled Bengaluru concert on October 24. The singer shared a video message addressing the controversy after pro-Kannada organisation Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) demanded that Bengaluru City Police Commissioner deny permission for the concert.

In his video message, Sonu said he was willing to apologise repeatedly if it helped preserve his relationship with people in Karnataka.
“When you love someone and want the relationship to last, you don’t mind saying sorry a thousand times,” Sonu said in Kannada at the beginning of the video.
“So, my dear family, if anything I’ve said inadvertently has hurt you, I’m so sorry. You know I’m not the kind of person who would ever hurt anyone, especially my family from Karnataka. You have given me so much love and respect over the last 30 years, and I don’t want any small misunderstanding to taint that relationship or cause any bitterness,” he added.
What did Sonu Nigam say about the Pahalgam attack?
The controversy dates back to April 2025, when Sonu performed at East Point College of Engineering and Technology in Bengaluru. During the concert, a member of the audience repeatedly demanded that he sing in Kannada. Sonu responded by speaking about his longstanding affection for Karnataka and its audiences, while objecting to what he described as an aggressive manner of making the request.
The incident gained renewed attention after his comments were linked to the April 22, 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people were killed after gunmen opened fire on tourists at Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sonu’s remarks sparked criticism among sections of the Kannada-speaking community, with the issue continuing to remain contentious.
Sonu Nigam’s Bengaluru concert
The singer is scheduled to perform in Bengaluru on October 24. KRV’s demand to stop the concert has brought the controversy back into focus ahead of the event.
With his latest video message, Sonu has sought to put the matter behind him and reiterated that he values his longstanding relationship with Karnataka and its people.
