Shweta Tripathi says Golu Gupta will always be part of her; hints at revisiting Mirzapur character in the future
Shweta Tripathi has portrayed Golu Gupta through several phases of her life in the Mirzapur universe, with the character evolving from a reserved, academically inclined young woman into someone shaped by loss, power, survival and revenge. With Mirzapur: The Movie taking the story forward, the actor has reflected on her long association with Golu and expressed her interest in exploring more facets of the character.
Speaking about how Golu has changed over the years, Shweta highlighted how the character’s journey has also influenced her growth as an actor. She said, “Golu and I have been together for so many years now, and that journey is very special to me. When we first met her, she was this reserved girl who believed in books and education, and today, well..she has experienced so much that has changed her. And is still changing. But I think that’s what makes her human. Life changes you, sometimes in ways you never imagined, and Golu has lived through so much of that. I have grown as an actor while playing her, too, so in many ways, we have grown together. She will always be an incredibly important part of my journey.”
For Shweta, Golu’s appeal lies in the fact that her experiences continue to shape her, leaving room for further exploration. Having played the character across different stages of her life, the actor believes that returning to Golu offers an opportunity to discover new dimensions rather than simply revisit familiar territory.
Sharing why she would like to continue playing the character, Shweta said, “Honestly, I still feel there is so much more to Golu. Every time I return to her, I discover something new. As an actor, that is such a beautiful space to be in because you are not just repeating something you have done before. You are going back to a person who has lived through more experiences, and you have to understand what those experiences have done to her. Golu has surprised me so many times, and I would love to keep discovering those different sides of her.”
Over the years, Golu has become a recognisable part of the Mirzapur universe, with audiences following her transformation across the franchise. Shweta’s comments underline the personal significance of the role, which has remained an important part of her acting journey.
With Mirzapur: The Movie extending the story, Shweta’s remarks also leave the door open to revisiting Golu Gupta in the future. While no further project featuring the character has been confirmed in her comments, the actor has made it clear that she believes there is still more to discover about Golu.
