A trip built around sport and shared experiences
In a related Reel from the trip, Saiyami reflected on the role her father has played in shaping her relationship with sport and the outdoors. She shared that he taught her to swim when she was around two or three years old and credited him with nurturing her lifelong interest in adventure and physical activity.
The Queensland trip gave the father-daughter duo plenty of opportunities to share those interests. They went diving at the Great Barrier Reef, visited the Gabba, surfed together and snorkelled around the Tangalooma shipwreck.
The trip also included a major milestone in Saiyami’s endurance journey. She ran the Gold Coast Marathon, with her father cheering her on at the finish line. For an athlete who has taken on challenges including marathons and the Ironman 70.3, having him there added a personal dimension to the achievement.
