Revanth’s govt. leaves its imprint after 1,000 days in office

As the Congress government completes 1,000 days in office, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy can point to several areas where his administration has sought to establish a distinct identity, from attracting investments and retaining Hyderabad’s position as an IT power house to putting women at the centre of its welfare and economic agenda.

The transition from the KCR era to the Congress government was not merely a change of political leadership. Mr. Revanth Reddy sought to dismantle what he often described as an entrenched administrative and political ecosystem and replace it with a model centred on welfare, investment, employment and delivery of government services.

One of the clearest areas where the government has sought to make its mark is in maintaining Telangana’s reputation as an investment destination.

The government says the State has emerged as an attractive investment hub and has been rated a “Top Achiever” in key sectors under the Business Reforms Action Plan. Investments worth ₹1.29 lakh crore have come through TG-iPASS, while the Telangana Rising Global Summit generated investment agreements worth ₹5.75 lakh crore.

Investments worth ₹92,281 crore have been made on TGIIC lands, with the potential to create more than 78,000 jobs. The Next-Gen Life Sciences Policy has attracted proposed investments worth ₹73,360 crore, with an employment generation target of 3.5 lakh jobs.

Tech edge

The Congress government has also been keen to ensure that the change in political leadership does not translate into any loss of momentum for Hyderabad’s IT sector.

According to government figures, Telangana’s IT exports touched ₹3.97 lakh crore in 2025-26, while direct IT employment reached 12.14 lakh. Hyderabad now has more than 355 Global Capability Centres, with another 40 companies choosing the city in 2026 alone.

The government is simultaneously positioning Telangana as a major destination for data centres, cloud computing and Artificial Intelligence. Amazon has announced an additional investment of $7 billion in the State, while the government has established TGDeX, described as India’s first State AI Data Exchange.

Women rule the roost?

In the Revanth Reddy government, women have emerged as one of the most visible political and welfare priorities. The Mahalakshmi scheme, one of the Congress’s key electoral promises, has enabled women to travel free on TSRTC buses. More than 335 crore free journeys have been recorded, with the government estimating that women have saved nearly ₹11,000 crore in travel expenses.

The administration has gone beyond conventional welfare and turned women’s self-help groups into economic enterprises. Bank-linkage loans worth ₹60,487 crore have been extended to 4.54 lakh women’s groups, accompanied by ₹1,900 crore in interest subsidy.

Women’s groups are being encouraged to enter new areas of business, from manufacturing school uniforms and sarees to operating petrol pumps and owning and running RTC buses. Gruha Jyothi provides free electricity up to 200 units to more than 53 lakh families, while 43 lakh families are being supplied LPG cylinders at ₹500.

The government has simultaneously unveiled an ambitious infrastructure agenda aimed at taking Hyderabad and the State into the next phase of growth.

A nearly 360-km Regional Ring Road around Hyderabad is part of the plans, along with 6,092 km of HAM roads across Telangana. The second phase of Hyderabad Metro is proposed to cover 122.9 km through seven corridors.

The development of Mamnoor airport and the Adilabad airfield is also on the agenda, with the government seeking to strengthen regional connectivity and spread economic activity beyond Hyderabad.
