Pratap trailer launch: Seema Biswas reveals, “I last shot with Nana Patekar for Shakti Shalini on June 29”; adds, “Nana sir was so fit that I used to think, ‘Main toh ekdum naalayak hoon unke saamne’!”
Amit Sadh, Esha Deol, Seema Biswas, Milind Gunaji, writer-director Sachin Saraf and producer Pradeep Rangwani attended the trailer launch of their film Pratap. The film is based on an encounter specialist and hence, the film’s team and even the media remembered Ab Tak Chhappan (2004), starring the late Nana Patekar. Seema Biswas, who worked with Nana Patekar in Khamoshi (1996), went down memory lane.

Seema Biswas said, “I am still not able to believe that Nana sir is no longer with us. Just recently, on June 29, Nana sir and I last shot together for Shakti Shalini. The whole world knows that he was highly talented. On the sets, he was (a joy to work with). He would cook and then ask me, ‘Tu toh Bangalan hain. Kya tu mutton nahin khaati kya?’!”
She added, “He was very inspiring. Khamoshi was one of my first films. I would go to Nana sir’s house to learn sign language. We would have a lot of creative discussions and arguments. It would lead to the script being tweaked.”
Regarding Nana Patekar’s demise, Seema confessed, “For 3 days, I was in complete silence, as it was just difficult to believe that he passed away. He was so fit. On the set, he would roam around shirtless, wearing a lungi and pagdi. He was so fit that I used to think, ‘Main toh ekdum naalayak hoon unke saamne’ (laughs)!”
Seema Biswas continued, “So, we’ll never forget his contribution to Indian cinema. Also, he did so much for the needy people in our country. He lived like an aam aadmi and was easily approachable though he had a larger-than-life persona on the big screen. Also, he was highly creative.”
She revealed, “In Khamoshi, we had to do a scene using sign language. Though there were no dialogues, the words I had to communicate, woh dil ko nahin lag rahe the. I conveyed the same to the film’s writer. On the day of the shoot, I realized the dialogue wasn’t changed and I complained to the writer. She went and came back with the changed scene. It was exactly the way I wanted. The writer told me that it was Nana ji who made the required changes! That’s how Nana Patekar was.”
Pratap releases in cinemas on November 20. As for Shakti Shalini, it is a part of Maddock Horror Comedy Universe and stars Aneet Padda of Saiyaara (2025) fame.
