Oil India’s green arm signs MoU with Haryana municipalities for CBG and clean energy production

The four facilities will together process about 5,000 tonne of municipal solid waste per day

NEW DELHI: OIL Green Energy Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Oil India Limited (OIL), has signed Memoranda of Understanding with four Haryana municipalities – Gurgaon, Faridabad, Hisar and Ambala – to develop integrated compressed biogas (CBG) and waste-to-energy projects.The four facilities will together process about 5,000 tonne of municipal solid waste per day and are expected to produce 70-75 tonne of CBG and 50 MW of green power a day.“The projects envisage an integrated waste processing and resource-recovery approach, wherein municipal solid waste will undergo scientific pre-processing and segregation to maximise resource recovery,” OIL said in a regulatory filing.“Recyclable material will be recovered, the wet and biodegradable fraction will be utilised for production of CBG, while only the non-recyclable dry fraction will be utilised for generation of electricity through waste-to-energy facilities,” it added.The projects are aimed at reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills by recovering recyclable and biodegradable material for CBG production and using the remaining non-recyclable waste to generate electricity.OIL said the projects fit into the Centre’s GOBARdhan – National Circular Bioenergy Scheme 2026, which was recently launched to promote scientific waste management and conversion of organic waste into CBG and other forms of clean energy.
