In an interview with a leading publication, the actress spoke about how the show’s visual sensibility reminded her of the filmmaker’s work. She explained that the team attempted to recreate elements of his distinctive style within the vertical format, drawing particular inspiration from the song ‘Lahu Munh Lag Gaya’ featuring Deepika Padukone.

“We have created the charm of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s filmmaking. The ‘Lahu Munh Lag Gaya’ kind of andaaz and appeal, we tried to capture that essence Deepika on Big Screen and Nyrraa on vertical. We shot the entire show with that sensibility. When I used to see the shots, I would think, ‘this has shown me how I would look in a Bhansali film’ We have really put a lot of effort into bringing that level of energy to the making.”

The actress also added a playful observation during the conversation, asking, “‘Lag Rahi Hu Ke Nahi Main’ Deepika Padukone Jaisi”. Her remarks offer a glimpse into the visual ambition behind Premkatha and the effort to bring a grand cinematic aesthetic to a micro drama.

In the series, Nyrraa plays Sejal, the fearless daughter of a dreaded don who falls in love with Jai, played by Karam Rajpal. A humble truck driver, Jai repeatedly comes to Sejal’s rescue, and their relationship soon draws them into a fierce conflict between rival crime families. As the story progresses, revelations about Jai’s identity threaten to change the course of their lives.

Set against the colourful backdrop of Gujarat, Premkatha combines an intense romantic storyline with family rivalries, revenge and dramatic twists. Its visual presentation is central to the show’s attempt to deliver a cinematic experience in the vertical storytelling format.

Premkatha is streaming exclusively on the Story TV app.
