Mehidy Hasan Miraz earns Tahir’s praises after stellar CPL debut

Mehidy Hasan Miraz made an immediate impact on his Caribbean Premier League (CPL) debut for Guyana Amazon Warriors, taking three wickets for 13 runs in his opening match. The Bangladesh spinner joined the Warriors as a like-for-like replacement for Mohammad Nabi, who departed the tournament to join Afghanistan for a T20 International series against India starting September 13.

Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated St Lucia Kings by four wickets at Providence Stadium on Thursday. St Lucia was restricted to 119, dismissed in 18.5 overs, with Imran Tahir claiming five wickets. Miraz bowled four overs during the Kings’ innings and proved instrumental in the Warriors’ bowling attack.

“We had Nabi, a very high-quality bowler and our best bowler. Miraj came in and bowled really well, exactly as we expected. It is really great to have him. Miraj is a world-class bowler who has been performing at international level all over the world,” Tahir said after the match.

Miraz’s debut performance and arrival at Warriors

Miraz’s spell included the dismissal of John Campbell in the seventh over, caught at long-off attempting to hit a six. He also trapped Kemol Savory lbw and removed Charith Asalanka with the final ball of his third over, demonstrating control and precision in his opening CPL appearance.

Tahir’s assessment of the Bangladesh spinner

Guyana’s chase was completed in 18.3 overs with the loss of six wickets. Glenn Phillips and Quinton Sampson both scored 37 runs each, providing the foundation for the Warriors’ successful pursuit of the target. Miraz’s early impact in the tournament suggested he would be a valuable addition to the Warriors’ bowling attack for the remainder of the competition.

The 28-year-old was sent in to bat at No. 5, but he was dismissed by Roston Chase for one run in four balls. Miraz is a very handy batter, and expect him to contribute as the tournament progresses. He hasn’t been picked in Bangladesh’s squad for the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 and will be available to the Warriors for the remainder of CPL 2026.
