Life in US is fake luxurious: Mumbai man with $360k savings says he plans to return to India to take over father’s business
A 35-year-old Indian man shared his experience of spending 12 years in the US and summarized it as an overall regret. He explained that he planned to return to India with $360k in savings and take over his father’s construction business. With a Rs 1 crore annual turnover, the business will keep his finances sorted but his real concern is something else. “The only thing holding me back is I want kids and I don’t want to put them through the same immigration BS that I went through. Really torn between should I strive for more or move back and live a comfortable life,” the man said, adding that he is already engaged and his wife is on board with his plan to return to India. While most of the NRIs express their doubts about India’s pollution, job scenarios, and traffic issues, this Redditor highlighted a different side of life in the US. He said he came to the US 12 years ago and has a steady job in engineering. But his life in a high-cost-of-living city seems hollow and lonely, he said, calling life in the US ‘fake luxurious’.“I had big dreams when I got here but it’s insanely lonely and the quality of life in the US is fake luxurious ( I pay $4k for a one bed with wooden walls) and our home in Mumbai is bigger and better built,” he said.
Reddit suggestions were divided
The Reddit suggestions were hugely divided as many advised him to return to India without thinking about the future children who are not yet born, while many warned that if his children are born in the US, it will indeed open many avenues. Some said that he must change his city in the US to get a better experience and if he still feels lonely after spending 12 years, then probably he has some problem.
