Climate activist and innovator Sonam Wangchuk on Saturday warned of launching a peaceful protest in case the authorities fail to release detained youth in New Delhi.
“I hope those arrested will be released soon. I saw youth, journalists and even Members of Parliament being detained since the morning. I will be compelled to consider fast or foot march if they are not released by tomorrow,” said Mr. Wangchuk.
In a video post on social media, Mr. Wangchuk said he expected the biggest democracy to allow peaceful protests. “I strongly condemn the undeclared emergency. I urge the government to end these arrests and resolve issues,” said Mr. Wangchuk.
He gave an ultimatum of 24 hours to the centre “to resolve the issues”. “I hope I will not be forced to take the route of protests and the government will take necessary steps,” said Mr. Wancgchuk.
