Ishan Kishan, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s hilarious banter

East Zone captain Ishan Kishan and vice-captain Vaibhav Sooryavanshi shared a light-hearted moment while discussing their viral DRS moments from the Duleep Trophy 2026 final.

The final between East Zone and South Zone ended in a draw, but Kishan’s side were crowned champions after taking a crucial first-innings lead. Sooryavanshi played an important role during the match, including making successful DRS calls that caught the attention of fans on social media.

One such moment saw the 15-year-old confidently urge Kishan to take a review. Speaking after the game, Kishan jokingly claimed that Sooryavanshi had received all the credit despite the captain already planning to review the decision.

“What happened? What are you talking about? Tell me too. Ask me questions too. I want to know what he was answering. He’s taken all the credit in the review everywhere. Although I was going to take the review, he came up and said it so confidently that I will just walk over to you, and then the internet will be like: Vaibhav! My goodness! Vaibhav is the one! So he played that role very well. I’m very happy,” Kishan said in a video released by BCCI Domestic.

Sooryavanshi was quick to respond and reminded his captain about the occasions when he had to take charge while Kishan was off the field.

“When you were going off the field, who was taking the reviews then? Tell us that too,” Sooryavanshi replied.

Suryavanshi steps up in Kishan’s absence

Kishan was briefly off the field during the final, which meant Sooryavanshi took over the captaincy responsibilities for East Zone.

During that period, veteran pacer Mohammed Shami found the edge of South Zone batter Smaran Ravichandran’s bat. Wicketkeeper Kumar Kushagra appealed for the dismissal, and Suryavanshi immediately signalled for a review.

The decision went in East Zone’s favour, with Ravichandran dismissed for 23. Suryavanshi’s confident call was followed by celebrations from the youngster and his teammates.

Kishan was also full of praise for Sooryavanshi’s contribution to the team beyond his performances with the bat. The East Zone captain highlighted the youngster’s attitude and the way he interacts with teammates of different ages.

“But very good to have him in the team because, more than a very good player, he’s a very nice boy who takes care of each and everyone in the team, whether it is a junior player or senior. That is one quality which I love about him and hopefully he will be more dangerous than what he is today,” Kishan said.

The wicketkeeper-batter also backed Suryavanshi to enjoy many more successful outings in domestic cricket.

“I think it is not going to be his first or last. He is going to play many more like this and keep performing the way he is doing right now,” he concluded.

Sooryavanshi contributed 44 off 37 balls in East Zone’s first innings, hitting five fours and a six. He was dismissed for just eight in the second innings, but his overall contribution and confidence throughout the final earned praise from his captain.
