In its Economic Outlook report, Deloitte India forecast GDP growth of 6.6-7 per cent for FY28, following the projected expansion of 7.1-7.3 per cent in FY27.

A sustained recovery in private capital expenditure could provide an additional driver of domestic demand while expanding India’s productive capacity, Deloitte said.
The Indian economy is projected to expand by 7.1-7.3 per cent in the current financial year, supported by a potential recovery in private investment, Deloitte India said on Friday. However, geopolitical uncertainties, fluctuations in energy prices and trade disruptions could weigh on the growth outlook.

Deloitte India Economist Rumki Majumdar said India’s economic growth over the past decade has been driven by resilient household consumption and sustained government spending on public infrastructure. Improved connectivity, stronger corporate balance sheets and higher capacity utilisation have now created favourable conditions for businesses to expand investments.
“The question is whether these conditions will encourage private investment to play a larger role in boosting growth in the coming years. Recent indicators offer grounds for optimism. Gross fixed capital formation grew by 11.9 per cent in the first quarter of FY 2026-27, its fastest expansion in four years,” Majumdar said.
A sustained recovery in private capital expenditure could provide an additional driver of domestic demand while expanding India’s productive capacity, the report noted. The extent to which businesses increase investments will be crucial in determining the growth trajectory in the coming years.
Deloitte’s FY27 growth forecast is broadly in line with estimates from several other institutions. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) have projected growth of 7.1 per cent, while the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Asian Development Bank (ADB), S&P Global Ratings and Moody’s have estimated growth at 7 per cent.
Majumdar said investment in strategic sectors, including semiconductors, electronics, defence manufacturing, clean energy and artificial intelligence infrastructure, could further strengthen the private capex cycle. These industries typically require substantial upfront investments, potentially supporting capital formation.
“India has improved many of the business conditions needed to expand. Turning those improvements into sustained private investment now depends on how confidently firms can plan, finance, and execute their next projects,” she added.
Despite the positive outlook, the report cautioned that global geopolitical tensions, energy-price volatility and disruptions to international trade remain key risks to India’s economic growth projections.
