“I wanted the family dynamics, cultural nuances and musical world to come together,” says Palnati Surya Pratap on Prakash Raj starrer Jagamae Sangeetham
Palnati Surya Pratap is set to make his series directorial debut with Prime Video’s upcoming Telugu musical drama Jagamae Sangeetham starring Prakash Raj. Ahead of the show’s premiere, the filmmaker has opened up about his approach to bringing Carnatic music, family dynamics and cultural nuances together within the narrative.

For Surya Pratap, music forms an integral part of the storytelling rather than functioning as a separate element. The director, who has studied Carnatic music himself, said that his interest in the classical form helped him bring authenticity to the world created for the series.
Reflecting on his approach, Palnati Surya Pratap shared, “For me, the heart of the story has always been family and the emotions that bind them together. Music becomes the language through which the relationships, conflicts and aspirations unfold. Since I have always loved Carnatic music and have studied it as well, I wanted that cultural layer to feel authentic and naturally woven into the story. Since this was my first series and a long-format project, it allowed me to explore the characters and their emotional journeys in greater depth.”
The filmmaker further elaborated on balancing the traditional aspects of Carnatic music with the requirements of the story of Jagamae Sangeetham. He said, “My approach was to keep the music rooted in its tradition while ensuring that every musical moment organically served the story and the characters, rather than feeling like an interruption to the narrative. I wanted the family dynamics, cultural nuances, and musical world to come together in a way that felt genuine and relatable to Telugu audiences.”
Created and directed by Palnati Surya Pratap, Jagamae Sangeetham is produced by Sushmita Konidela under the banner of Gold Box Entertainment. The eight-episode series is written by Vangala Surya Manoj, Shravani Samudrala and A.R. Prabhav, with Vishal Chandrasekar composing the music.
The ensemble cast also includes Meka Srikanth, Madhubala, Akshay Lagusani and Sushmita Shetty in lead roles with Prakash Raj, along with Suman and Sijju Menon in key parts.
Jagamae Sangeetham will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on September 4, 2026, and will be available across India and more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. The series will stream in Telugu with English subtitles and Tamil dubs.
