Duleep Trophy 2026: East Zone book semi-final spot vs Central Zone

East Zone defeated North East Zone by an innings and 210 runs in the Duleep Trophy 2026-27 quarter-final at the BCCI Centre of Excellence’s Ground 2 in Bengaluru, securing their place in the last four of the tournament.

The victory sets up a semi-final meeting between East Zone and Central Zone, with that fixture scheduled to begin on August 30, 2026 at the same facility. Central Zone, led by Rajat Patidar, are the defending champions having claimed the 2025-26 edition of the Duleep Trophy.

How did East Zone build such a commanding victory?

East Zone’s innings was anchored by two outstanding individual contributions. Shahbaz Ahmed struck 167 and Sudip Kumar Gharami added 146, the pair combining to give their side a total of 467 in the first innings. That score left North East Zone facing an enormous task from the outset.

North East Zone were dismissed for 111 in their first innings, a deficit of 356 runs that made an innings defeat a near certainty. Abhijit Sarkar was the chief destroyer with the ball, returning figures of 5 for 20 to dismantle the opposition batting order and hand East Zone complete control of the contest.

Forced to follow on, North East Zone could not mount a meaningful response in their second innings either. Anukul Roy took a five-wicket haul to wrap up proceedings and complete a comprehensive win for Kishan’s side. The margin of an innings and 210 runs underlined the gulf between the two teams across all three departments.

What does the semi-final hold for East Zone?

Kishan & Co. now move into the semi-final against Central Zone, who entered this stage of the competition without playing a quarter-final. Central Zone and South Zone had pre-qualified for the semi-finals as the top two finishers from the previous season, meaning Patidar’s side arrives fresh and well-rested.

Central Zone are a formidable opponent at this stage of the Duleep Trophy. They won the 2025-26 final by six wickets against South Zone, claiming their seventh title in the competition. That record makes them the team to beat heading into the knockout rounds.

East Zone will need to produce a similarly disciplined collective effort with bat and ball if they are to overcome the defending champions when the semi-final begins on August 30, 2026.
