The Centre has extended the tenure of Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad by another six months, until May 31, 2027.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), under the Union Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, issued orders approving the extension following a proposal submitted by the State government.
In a communication to the Principal Secretary of the State General Administration (Political) Department, Union government Under Secretary Rajesh Kumar Yadav conveyed the Centre’s approval to extend the Chief Secretary’s tenure until May 31, 2027.
A 1991-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, Mr. Sai Prasad is currently serving as the State’s Chief Secretary. His tenure had previously been extended by six months, from June 1 to November 30, 2026. He was due to retire on November 30.
Seeking a further extension, the Andhra Pradesh government wrote to the Centre on September 29, requesting that Mr. Sai Prasad be allowed to continue in office for another six months.
The Union government has now accepted the State’s proposal and issued the necessary orders, enabling the senior IAS officer to continue as Chief Secretary until May 31, 2027.
Mr. Sai Prasad assumed charge as Chief Secretary on February 28, 2026, succeeding K. Vijayanand. He was earlier Special Chief Secretary, Water Resources Department, and Ex-Officio Special Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister.
The extension is expected to ensure continuity in the State administration under his leadership.
