Bigg Boss 20: Mahhi Vij says she did not take alimony from Jay Bhanushali, reveals judge asked her four times to reconsider
Bigg Boss 20 contestant Mahhi Vij has opened up about her decision not to seek or accept alimony or maintenance from her estranged husband Jay Bhanushali. During a conversation with Aasif Khan inside the house, Mahhi said she chose to be financially independent and wanted to secure her daughter Tara’s future on her own.
Mahhi’s comments came amid an emotional week for the contestants, many of whom have been missing their families. The actress recently found herself in a heated argument with Arishfa Khan after she made remarks about the influencer’s upbringing. Arishfa has spoken on the show about being raised by a single mother.
Mahhi later acknowledged that her comments were wrong and apologised to Arishfa. However, the issue resurfaced during another argument on Wednesday, when Arishfa accused Mahhi of being disrespectful towards her mother and called her “cheap”. Following the confrontation, Mahhi broke down and spoke about her personal life while talking to Aasif.
Mahhi Vij says she did not take alimony or maintenance
During the conversation, Mahhi said, “Arishfa is such a liar. I want to speak to her as I talk to my daughter Tara, but she is very disrespectful. That day, I felt bad about what I told her. I am a single mother and only I know how I survive every day.”
She then spoke about her relationship with Jay, and said, “Jay pushes me to step out; he says I am at home around Tara all the time, and he also offers to look after Tara. But my life revolves around her,” she added.
Mahhi went on to claim that she did not take any money as alimony or ask for maintenance. “I didn’t take a single penny in alimony or even ask for maintenance. I’m here on my merit, only so that my daughter’s life is secured. It’s not like Jay doesn’t offer to help, but I cannot ask for money from someone. It’s his hard-earned money,” she said.

Mahhi recalls judge asking her to reconsider
Mahhi further claimed that during their court proceedings, the judge asked her multiple times to reconsider her decision not to seek alimony or maintenance. “When I was standing in the court, the judge asked me four times to reconsider not taking alimony or even maintenance. He insisted that I take it. I didn’t take it because Jay earned that money after working very hard,” she said.
Mahhi clarified that her decision did not mean Jay would refuse to support her if she needed it. She said she considers his earnings the result of his own hard work. “Not that he will refuse me for anything… his entire locker is open for me. But it’s his efforts, he stood for 16 hours at work and earned that,” she added.
Mahhi had earlier denied Rs 5 crores alimony reports
Mahhi’s latest comments also revisit rumours that surfaced after she and Jay announced their divorce in January. At the time, reports claimed that Mahhi had demanded Rs 5 crores as alimony.
The actress had addressed the reports in a YouTube vlog and urged people not to believe claims about their separation without confirmation from her. She had also asked for privacy for herself and their children.
