Ayushmann Khurrana reveals Guneet Monga Kapoor took his first-ever audition; says, “We’ve stayed in touch ever since”
Ayushmann Khurrana has revealed an interesting connection with Oscar-winning producer Guneet Monga Kapoor as the two come together for Udta Teer. The actor, who has consistently gravitated towards distinctive stories and unconventional characters, shared that his professional association with Monga Kapoor goes back several years, with the producer having taken his first-ever audition. Their long-standing acquaintance has now translated into a collaboration on the upcoming patriotic action-comedy, which also stars Sara Ali Khan.
Speaking about what makes their partnership work, Ayushmann highlighted their shared approach to content and storytelling. The actor said, “Guneet and I share a very common core when it comes to content. I’ve always been drawn to clutter-breaking, unique cinema, and Guneet has championed distinctive storytelling in her own way, taking Indian stories to a global platform and representing India at the Oscars. And it is this synergy that makes this film so exciting. With Udta Teer, we’re bringing that shared vision to a genre-breaking entertainer that blends patriotism, action and comedy.”
The actor also looked back at how his association with the producer began, recalling the early days of their respective journeys in the entertainment industry. He added, “She took my first ever audition, so we go back a long way. We’ve stayed in touch ever since and watched each other’s journeys, and now we’ve finally got the chance to work together.”
Monga Kapoor, who has earned international recognition for backing Indian stories and taking them to a global audience, is jointly producing Udta Teer through Sikhya Entertainment alongside Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. The film brings together Ayushmann and Sara Ali Khan as a new on-screen pairing, with Akash A. Kaushik directing the project.
Positioned as a spy comedy, Udta Teer takes a lighter approach to the espionage genre, following an unlikely operative whose blunders and misadventures turn high-stakes intelligence operations into a chaotic ride. With double agents, unexpected twists and comedic misunderstandings forming part of the narrative, the film aims to combine action and situational humour with family entertainment.
Featuring music by Sachin-Jigar, Udta Teer is scheduled for a theatrical release worldwide on October 9, 2026.
