Ashoke Pandit REACTS to Tiger Shroff firing incident; says, “An atmosphere of fear has taken hold within our industry”

Chief Advisor of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), Ashoke Pandit, has condemned the firing incident involving actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai, describing it as a serious threat to the safety of people in the film industry. He also expressed concern that the incident could create an atmosphere of fear within the entertainment fraternity, drawing parallels with the period when the underworld’s influence was felt in Bollywood during the 1980s and 1990s.

The firing reportedly took place on Sunday evening near Juhu’s Pushpa Narsee Park, where motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly opened fire. Tiger Shroff escaped unharmed, while his driver, Firdaus, sustained a bullet injury to his hand. A bystander was also reportedly injured in the incident. Both were hospitalised.

Reacting to the incident in a conversation with ANI, Pandit said, “This incident is deeply concerning, as it involves a direct threat to someone’s life. In broad daylight, in a public space, individuals armed with weapons arrived and opened fire. It was fortunate that Tiger Shroff survived, especially given that the shots were fired at such close range…”

He strongly condemned the attack and said that the incident had raised concerns about the safety of people working in the film industry. “I strongly condemn this attack. An atmosphere of fear has taken hold within our industry; there is no doubt about that,” he said.

Pandit expressed concern that such incidents could revive memories of a time when threats and intimidation by underworld figures affected members of the film fraternity. A ‘fear psychosis’ is being created within our industry, he said, comparing the situation with the 1980s and 1990s, when the underworld held sway through threats and intimidation.

“I believe it is absolutely essential to eliminate such forces. I have full confidence that the Mumbai Police are capable of handling this,” Pandit added.

He also appealed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and his deputies to treat the matter with urgency, warning that failing to address such incidents could make the situation more difficult to control. “I appeal to our honorable Chief Minister, Mr Fadnavis, and his deputies to treat this with the utmost seriousness; if the situation spirals out of control, it may become impossible to rein it back in,” he said.

Pandit further stressed the need for action against those responsible, particularly after an individual or group reportedly claimed responsibility for the firing. “Given that someone has reportedly claimed responsibility for this, it is imperative that such elements are neutralized,” he added.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has described the firing incident as serious and condemnable, assuring that the police are investigating the matter.
