Andhra Pradesh government steps up efforts to trace Telugu people stranded in Nepal flash floods

The Andhra Pradesh government has stepped up efforts to trace and evacuate State residents stranded or missing in the flash floods in Nepal.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to identify Andhra Pradesh residents caught in the disaster and take immediate steps to move them to safe locations. The State government is coordinating with the Central Government and monitoring developments continuously through the Real-Time Governance (RTG) system.

A control room has been established at AP Bhavan in New Delhi to collect information about stranded tourists and pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh and extend assistance to them and their families. The Chief Minister has instructed officials to maintain continuous coordination with the authorities and provide all possible assistance to affected pilgrims and tourists from the State.

The advisory issued for stranded passengers and pilgrims urges them to remain calm and immediately seek assistance. Those in need of rescue can contact the Nepal Army at 01-5979224 / 9851072914; the Nepal Police emergency number is 100, the ambulance service is 102 and the Tourism Police can be reached at 1144 or 01-4247041.

Indian citizens requiring assistance can contact the designated 24/7 helpline at +977-9851316807. Those seeking help should provide their name, passport number, exact location, contact number, number of persons stranded, medical requirements and last known location. People stranded in affected areas have been advised to stay in elevated and safe locations, keep their phones charged, avoid floodwaters and follow evacuation instructions.

According to the situation report, several areas, including Syapru Besi and Timure, important transit and acclimatisation points for Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims, have been severely affected. Rescue operations are being carried out by the Nepal Army, Police and paramilitary forces.

Families trying to trace missing persons have been advised to contact Nepal Tourism Police at 1144 and the embassy concerned, while providing passport details and the person’s last-known location.

With the situation remaining fluid, the Andhra Pradesh government has urged people to remain alert and promptly share information about any State residents who may be stranded or missing in Nepal.
