Anbumani bats for 100% caste-based representation
PMK President Anbumani Ramadoss on Wednesday renewed calls for the implementation of 100% caste-based proportional representation, on the occasion of the centenary year of the implementation of 100% communal representation through Communal Government Order (no. 1071).
In a statement, Dr. Anbumani said though the representation has been increased to 69%, the fight for social justice is still incomplete.
“The 100% reservation policy was subsequently extended in 1935 to Central government offices in the Madras Presidency and continued until the Madras High Court delivered its verdict in the Champakam Dorairajan case in 1950. Subsequently, following the First Amendment to the Constitution of India in 1951, a new reservation system was introduced, beginning with 25% reservation for Backward Classes and 18% for Scheduled Castes, totalling 41%. This has now been increased to 69%,” he said, adding, “What prevails in Tamil Nadu today is not complete social justice. True social justice can be achieved only when every community receives reservation in proportion to its population.”
Dr. Anbumani further said, “It is commendable that, accepting the demand raised by the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), the government led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has announced that a social justice survey will be conducted in Tamil Nadu and that a commission will soon be constituted for this purpose. Further steps towards implementing this decision must also be taken without delay.”
