Anand Pandit assures, “1920 Cold Winter is COMPLETELY original”; Vikram Bhatt admits he’s SCARED of making films today: “Earlier, we hoped that having a star in the film would ensure we sailed through the weekend”
Ahan Shetty, Anya Singh, Larissa Bonesi, Vikram Bhatt and Anand Pandit attended the launch of their film 1920 Cold Winter in Mumbai. The event started nearly two hours late, but the team made up for the delay with a unique AV presentation that resembled a virtual coffee-table book. Vikram Bhatt began by saying, “Pehle bhi darr lagta tha. Abhi bhi darr lagta hai. Jitna logon ko picture dekh ke darr lagta hai, usse kayin zyada banane waalo ko lagta hai.”
A journalist asked why he fears making films now. Vikram replied, “Now when people like a film, sky is the limit when it comes to the business. Hanuman Ansh is a classic example. It started at Rs. 5 or 7 lakhs, and look where it’s now.”
He continued, “I am scared now because pehle hum directors stars ke peeche chhup sakte the. We hoped that having a star in the film would ensure that we sailed through the weekend. At worst, the film would get a B-plus verdict. That’s not the case anymore. You may cast a huge star, but if your film doesn’t have substance or content, the audience won’t come to watch it. That’s what I fear now – whether or not the audience will love my content.”
Producer Anand Pandit added, “Vikram ji is right. Content has always been the king. Since a long time, Hindi cinema had become an ‘inspired industry’. But looking at last year’s success, it seems like we are back on track. Now, original films are being attempted.”
He also claimed, “1920 dekh ke aapko bilkul nahin lagega ki yeh inspired hai. It’s absolutely original.”
Anand Pandit further said, “Since the directors and producers are preferring to tell original stories, we’ll have good traction from the audiences.”
