Alisha Chinai makes SHOCKING revelation – She was SHORTLISTED with Juhi Chawla for Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak: “I didn’t go for the final audition…Aamir Khan was QUITE upset”
Alisha Chinai had a conversation with Komal Nahta in which she opened up about the “monumental mistake that she made in life”, that is, turning down an opportunity to act in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) opposite superstar Aamir Khan.
Alisha Chinai began by saying, “Apart from being a singer, I also wanted to be an actor. Hence, I dabbled in modelling. I was called for a screen test with Aamir Khan. No one knows this story. He knows, though (laughs). It was for Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak.”
She continued, “I went for the audition. He rehearsed the dialogues with me. I went home and told myself, ‘I can’t cry on a cue’. In Indian movies and in Bollywood films, I find acting very contrived. There’s no realism. I didn’t like the whole style and I realized I would be uncomfortable as an actress. I said, ‘You’re a good singer. Forget acting’. Hence, I didn’t go for the final audition.”
She revealed, “Only two people had been shortlisted – me and Juhi Chawla (laughs). I think Aamir was quite upset that I didn’t go. He was quite pleased that I realized it was a big mistake (laughs)!”
When asked if she ever met Aamir Khan after that episode, Alisha Chinai replied, “Yes, I met him once. He just smiled. That’s it. At least, he smiled. I thought he’d look at me and think, ‘Stupid woman’!”
Alisha added, “It’s just that I felt that I wouldn’t fit in. Actually, I was down with a fever as well. But I just realized that it was not my scene and I don’t want to go.”
