Rakul Preet Singh calls being part of Ramayana ‘such a pleasure’; says, “I really hope you all love it and give it all the love”
Rakul Preet Singh is set to portray Surpanakha in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming film Ramayana. Speaking at the film’s international trailer launch event in Bengaluru, the actor reflected on her association with the city, her journey in cinema and the experience of being part of a project based on one of India’s most revered epics.

For Rakul, Bengaluru holds a special place in her career, as it was where her first film came about. Recalling her early days as an actor, she said, “So, Bangalore is a very special place for me. My first film happened in Bangalore. And at that point I didn’t even know if I really wanted to act. So I’ve gotten so much love from this place. So it’s really special to today stand here after all these years and be a part of Ramayana.”
The actor also spoke about being part of the vision brought together by director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra. Highlighting the significance of the epic and the work that has gone into the film, she said, “I think for me it’s just such a pleasure to be a part of a vision, a humongous vision that Nitesh sir and Namit sir have created. And I’m just so happy to be a part of it because Ramayana is so close to the hearts of each and every one of us. So all I can say is I really hope that all of you enjoy the film and give us all the love. There’s a lot of hard work that’s gone behind. Everyone’s performed really well: Sai, Ranbir, Yash, brother Ravana Yash. So, I really hope you all love it and give it all the love. Yeah, thank you. Thank you so much.”
Rakul’s casting as Surpanakha brings another familiar character from the epic into the film’s ensemble. Her appearance in the mythological drama marks a new addition to her filmography, with audiences set to see her take on a character who plays a significant role in the larger narrative of the Ramayana.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, Ramayana is planned as a two-part cinematic adaptation. The film features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, alongside Rakul as Surpanakha.
Ramayana: Part 1 is scheduled to release worldwide in cinemas on November 5, 2026, with the second instalment planned for Diwali 2027.
