WI vs PAK 2025, 2nd T20I Review: Jason Holder stars in all-round show as Windies’ losing streak ends

West Indies finally returned to winning ways in T20Is, ending a streak of six consecutive defeats with a spirited all-round performance led by Jason Holder. The hosts levelled the three-match T20I series against Pakistan with a thrilling win on August 3 at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill in Florida.

After calling the coin flip correctly at the toss, Pakistan opted to bat first, with Hasan Ali making a return to the Playing XI. West Indies also brought in Alick Athanaze and Keacy Carty to their playing XI. The visitors got off to a poor start, losing three wickets inside the powerplay. At one stage, they were reeling at 53/4, with skipper Agha Salman and Hasan Nawaz at the crease.

The pair steadied the innings with a 60-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Agha scored 38 off 33 balls, while Nawaz contributed a quick fire 40 off 23 deliveries, helping Pakistan post a modest total of 133/9 in their 20 overs. Holder starred with the ball for Caribbeans, finishing with figures of 4/19 in his four-over spell. Gudakesh Motie also impressed, picking up two wickets.

Windies stumble, but get over the line

Chasing 134, West Indies succumbed early, with Athanaze dismissed in the second over. They continued to lose wickets at regular intervals but kept the scoreboard ticking, with the help of contributions from multiple batters. Motie was the top scorer with a valuable 28 off 20 balls.

With eight runs required in the final over, Romario Shepherd and Holder were at the crease. Holder sealed the win in style by smashing a boundary off the last ball, handing the hosts a dramatic victory in a nail-biting contest. For the Men in Green, Mohammad Nawaz picked up three wickets, while Saim Ayub claimed two.

Holder was deservedly named Player of the Match for his outstanding all-round performance, guiding West Indies to a much-needed win and helping level the series 1-1. The decider will be played at the same venue on Monday, August 4.
