Vipul Shah reacts as The Kerala Story wins big at National Awards; says, “It’s been a very, very tough film to make”
Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s film The Kerala Story received recognition at the 71st National Film Awards, winning two key honours. Director Sudipto Sen was awarded Best Director, while Prasantanu Mohapatra was named Best Cinematographer. The film, which drew attention for its subject, also performed well at the box office.
Overwhelmed by the recognition, producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah took to social media to express his gratitude. “It’s a great achievement for the film. It’s been a very, very tough film to make and to get this kind of recognition at a national level with two very, very prestigious National Awards. It’s supremely exciting and satisfying. We all are grateful and extremely happy,” he wrote.

Sunshine Pictures on their Instagram handle shared the post of Shah along with a thank you message that reads, “Thank you for believing in The Kerala Story and supporting it’s journey.”
Directed by Sudipto Sen, The Kerala Story follows the fictionalised journey of a group of young women from Kerala who are allegedly radicalized and recruited by a terror organization. Despite being mired in controversy and political debates, the film became a box-office success and found a massive audience nationwide.
Vipul Amrutlal Shah is currently working on his next directorial project, Hisaab, a heist thriller featuring Jaideep Ahlawat and Shefali Shah in the lead roles. Produced by Sunshine Pictures in collaboration with Jio Studios, the film is set against a high-stakes backdrop and is scheduled for release in the second half of 2025. Hisaab marks another addition to Shah’s evolving filmography.
