Teen killed by his uncle over addiction to online game in Bengaluru
A 15-year-old boy was killed allegedly by his maternal uncle in Kumbarahalli in the northwestern part of Bengaluru. The accused, identified as Nagaprasad, surrendered before the Soladevanahalli police three days after the incident.
The victim, Amogh, a school dropout, was reportedly addicted to an online game. According to the police, Amogh had been pestering Nagaprasad for money to spend on the game, which allegedly enraged his uncle and led to the murder.
The incident occurred on August 4, around 5 a.m., while Amogh was asleep. The police said Nagaprasad allegedly used a kitchen knife to slit the boy’s throat before fleeing the scene. After the murder, the accused reportedly wandered through nearby villages, contemplating ending his own life, but he dropped the idea and surrendered before the police on Thursday.
An officer involved in the investigation told The Hindu that after Nagaprasad’s confession, the police went to the spot and discovered the boy’s decomposed body, which was sent for post-mortem, and Nagaprasad’s statement was recorded.
Investigations revealed that Nagaprasad had been giving Amogh money each time he asked, but the boy’s growing obsession with the game had become a cause of concern. On Sunday, Amogh reportedly demanded money again, despite Nagaprasad insisting he didn’t have it. Unconvinced, the boy allegedly threw tantrums, which triggered the suspect who killed the boy, the police said.
Based on his confession, Nagaprasad has been booked for murder, and the knife used in the killing has been seized. A Bengaluru court has remanded him in judicial custody.
The police said that Nagaprasad worked as a security guard and was living with Amogh in Kumbarahalli near Soladevanahalli. The family hails from Gubbi in Tumakuru district.
