Suyash Sharma picks RCB GOAT, it’s not Virat Kohli or AB de Villiers
Suyash Sharma played a key role in helping Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) win the Indian Premier League (IPL) title earlier this year. The talented leg-spinner might not have picked up too many wickets, but he complemented fellow spinner Krunal Pandya nicely and helped RCB dominate opposition teams through the middle overs in quite a few matches.
The 22-year-old recently played in the second edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL). He represented Outer Delhi Warriors. Suyash bagged nine wickets in eight games at an average of 26.89. However, the Warriors failed to qualify for the playoffs, finishing seventh on the points table.
In a rapid fire on the sidelines of DPL, Suyash picked Chris Gayle as the GOAT (Greatest of All Time) of RCB. The West Indies opener replaced Dirk Nannes midway through IPL 2011. He slammed a belligerent century on his IPL debut for RCB. Gayle became an important part of the RCB lineup in the years to come, also winning the Orange Cap in two editions.
The left-handed batter also has the highest score in IPL history. He achieved the feat during a game against Pune Warriors India in 2013, scoring 175* off 66 balls. From 2011-2017, he smashed 3163 runs for RCB in 85 matches at an average of 43.33 and a strike rate of 152.73. Gayle also registered five centuries and 19 fifties. His association with Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers was termed the holy trinity of RCB, as they joined forces to win plenty of matches for the Bengaluru-based franchise.
It was fitting that Gayle and de Villiers joined Kohli during RCB’s IPL-winning celebrations after the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on June 3. Pictures of the trio lifting the coveted IPL title went viral on social media. Kohli was one of RCB’s star performers in the campaign, finishing with 657 runs in 15 innings at an average of 54.75.
