Members of Mahila Morcha, the women’s wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), burnt the effigy of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and shouted slogans against him in Tirupati on Monday (September 1, 2025), protesting against the ‘derogatory’ remark made on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother by a Congress worker in his presence.

The party leaders led by TTD trust board member G. Bhanuprakash Reddy and BJP State spokesperson Jally Madhusudhan gathered at SGS Arts College junction and set the effigy afire, decrying the remark as ‘an insult to motherhood’. The remarks were made by a Congress worker in Mr. Rahul Gandhi’s presence during his recent Bihar visit.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bhanuprakash Reddy flayed Mr. Gandhi for not only not condemning the remark, but going to the extent of encouraging it.
Mr. Madhusudhan pointed out to Mr. Rahul Gandhi on the need to maintain dignity and decorum in public space, reminding him that his mother Sonia Gandhi and sister Priyanka Vadra were also into active politics.
In the same vein, he expressed dismay over the APCC President Y.S. Sharmila Reddy, not condemning the incident. He demanded an unconditional apology from the Congress to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
