Possible link suspected in recent blasts in Palakkad
The police investigating two recent blasts caused by crude explosives called ‘pannippadakkam’ in the district have found striking similarities between them, suggesting a possible link between the two incidents.
The blasts had taken place at Vyasa Vidya Peethom primary school at Vadakkanthara on August 20 and at Puthunagaram near here on September 4. The Vadakkanthara school is under the control of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The Communist Party of India Marxist [CPI(M)] and the Congress had raised allegations of the RSS’ involvement in the blast.
The similarity in the construction of the explosive devices found at both sites has raised suspicions of a connection between the two incidents.
While a 10-year-old boy and a woman were injured in the Vadakkanthara blast, a man and his sister were injured in the Puthunagaram blast. As the man’s injuries were serious, the police were not able to question him so far.
