Ireland spinner Aimee Maguire cleared to resume bowling in international cricket

Aimee Maguire has been allowed to resume bowling in international cricket by the International Cricket Council with immediate effect. The 18-year-old left-arm spinner was suspended from bowling in January earlier this year.

This was after Maguire’s bowling action was reported during the first ODI of the three-match series against India Women in Rajkot on January 10. Her action came under scrutiny as per the ICC’s rules on Illegal Bowling Regulations.

A press release published by the global administrative body revealed that she had re-modelled her action and that the re-assessment showed that the level of bend in her arm was within the limit set by the ICC.

“An independent assessment of Maguire’s remodelled bowling action at an ICC accredited testing centre concluded that the amount of elbow extension was within the 15-degree level of tolerance permitted under the ICC Illegal Bowling Regulations,” stated the ICC release, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Maguire has played 11 ODIs and nine T20Is for Ireland Women. She has picked up a total of 25 wickets in the 20 white-ball games played. She maintains an impressive economy rate of 7.20 in the 20-over format.

The Irish will host Pakistan Women in a three-match T20I series, scheduled to commence on Wednesday, August 6. However, she has not been included in the 14-member squad. All the three matches are set to be played at the Clontarf Cricket Club Ground in Dublin.

Maguire’s most-recent appearance for Ireland was when she registered figures of 3/57 in eight overs. Her victims were Harleen Deol (20 off 32), Jemimah Rodrigues (9 off 6), and Pratika Rawal (89 off 96).

Ireland’s 14-member squad for three-match T20I series against Pakistan: Amy Hunter (wk), Rebecca Stokell, Christina Coulter Reilly, Laura Delany, Orla Prendergast, Gaby Lewis (c), Freya Sargent, Ava Canning, Cara Murray, Lara McBride, Louise Little, Ava Canning, Leah Paul, Cara Murray
