Transport Minister and Hyderabad district in-charge Ponnam Prabhakar stressed that rainwater harvesting was a social responsibility, not just an official task, and called on GHMC, HYDRAA and the Water Board to prepare a comprehensive water management plan to ensure every drop of rain is absorbed into the ground.

Along with Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, the Minister reviewed precautionary measures taken within the Outer Ring Road limits to prevent flooding. He urged public awareness drives and, if necessary, enforcement to make residents adopt recharge pits and other conservation methods.

The Minister said proactive measures taken by the government under the direction of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy have prevented loss of life and property so far. While acknowledging that certain areas face flash flooding and traffic disruptions due to heavy short-duration rains, he assured that a master plan is being prepared to provide a permanent solution to both traffic congestion and flooding problems that have persisted for decades.

Mr. Ponnam Prabhakar said he would remain available 24/7 to respond to emergencies brought to his notice. He also warned of strict action against dumping of construction and demolition waste in lakes, ponds and drains, and instructed GHMC to take all preventive measures against seasonal diseases. GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan, Water Board MD Ashok Reddy and HYDRAA chief M.V. Ranganath were present.
