PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss on Monday criticised Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for not conducting a caste-based survey in the State, “despite having the power, financial resources, and legal backing to do so.”
Speaking at a public meeting in Gingee during his “Rights-retrieval walk”, he claimed the DMK government continued to evade the issue, while States like Telangana and Bihar had successfully completed caste-based enumeration and implemented welfare measures.
In his view, the government does not have the courage to conduct a socio-economic survey in Tamil Nadu. The Union government can only enumerate the headcount of the population of a particular community during the decadal census. However, only the State government can collect data on the socio-economic status of the people.
Despite having the power under the provisions of the relevant Act, the State government is spreading lies that it does not have the power to conduct such a survey, he claimed .
According to him, the DMK had always claimed to champion welfare schemes that ensured social justice, but in reality, it had done nothing to ensure social justice to the weak and the marginalised sections of society.
Mr. Ramadoss also spoke about the adverse impact of alcohol and drug abuse on Tamil society, calling for the abolition of liquor outlets. He claimed in 2026, under his leadership, the government would implement decisive reforms to tackle these issues.
