Did Rohit Sharma really score 19.4 in Yo-Yo Test?
Indian ODI captain Rohit Sharma has been at the centre of speculation after social media buzz suggested that he cleared the Yo-Yo fitness test with a score of 19.4. The veteran opener recently reported to the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru for routine fitness and pre-season assessments. Along with Rohit, Indian Test skipper Shubman Gill and several members of the Asia Cup 2025 squad also underwent testing at the venue.
Despite the widespread chatter online, there has been no official confirmation regarding Rohit’s results. According to BCCI protocols, fitness test scores are kept extremely confidential and not meant to be disclosed publicly. In fact, the board has previously stated that if test results are leaked, the players involved could face strict penalties, including removal from the team or snubs from the central contract list.
Given these rules, the claims about Rohit’s score cannot be treated as authentic until there is an official announcement from the BCCI or its representatives. This is the first time Rohit has taken a fitness test since announcing his retirement from Test cricket. A BCCI source in the know of the matter confirmed that all centrally contracted players are required to undergo mandatory fitness assessments before the start of the season.
“All players have to undergo a pre-season fitness Test, it’s mandatory as per the contract. These tests help the COE understand the areas the players have to work on or where they are lacking. As there was a big break (after the England Test series), the players were given sets of exercises to do at home,” the BCCI official stated as quoted by Hindustan Times.
India’s strength and conditioning coach, Adrian le Roux, had suggested earlier to include the rugby-inspired Bronco Test in the team’s fitness assessments. According to The Indian Express, the new endurance test is expected to be formally introduced later in the season as part of the fitness regimen for centrally contracted players.
Ahead of the Asia Cup 2025, which begins on September 9, several Indian players have already undergone fitness checks at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Among them were India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, along with Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav, who took part in the sessions.
