BREAKING: CBFC spares violent scenes, mutes ‘B******d’ in Coolie; post-certification, makers add 25-second-long animated visuals celebrating 50 years of Rajinikanth
Less than a week is left for the release of Coolie and the excitement is tremendous due to its casting, genre and association of Lokesh Kanagaraj as the director. Last week, Bollywood Hungama informed you that it is Rajinikanth’s first adult film in 36 years. In this article, we bring to you the list of cuts asked by the Censor Board.
The good news is that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) hasn’t asked for any deletion in the violent and action scenes. This probably has been made possible by the fact that the makers opted for an ‘A’ certificate. However, the Examining Committee (EC) asked the makers to censor dialogues in two places. The abusive word ‘B******d’ was asked to be muted. Secondly, ‘Thiruvannamalaikku Arogara’ was asked to be replaced.
The CBFC members further asked the makers to modify the brand name of liquor and to add a disclaimer on scenes of alcohol consumption. The EC also asked makers to provide NOC for using songs from other films in Coolie.
Once these changes were made, Coolie was passed on August 4. The length of the film, as mentioned on the censor certificate, is 169.57 minutes. In other words, Coolie is 2 hours 49 minutes and 57 seconds long.
A day later, the makers of Coolie once again approached the CBFC to make voluntary additions. To begin with, the 25-second-long animated visuals celebrating 50 years of Rajinikanth were added. The rap song ‘Music Thumbing’ was added in two visuals, which have already been certified, like Dhayal’s (Soubin Shahir) introduction and Simon (Nagarjuna) attacking a group of people. Similarly, the rap song ‘Ladies And Gentleman’ was added to the already certified visuals of Simon attacking Dhayal. The song ‘You’ve Got That Look’ was added to the already certified visuals of a lady killing people and remembering her past. Lastly, the song ‘All You Mobsters’ was added to the already certified visuals of Simon enjoying the party and Deva (Rajinikanth) and Preethi (Shruti Haasan) walking. No change has been made to the duration of these six scenes, as the tweak happened only in the background music.
This way, 25 seconds of footage was added. The new run time of Coolie is now 170.22 minutes, that is, 2 hours 50 minutes and 22 seconds.
