Be accessible to people and work with empathy, Chandrababu Naidu advises Collectors

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has underscored the pivotal role of the district Collectors in ensuring the success of government initiatives.
Addressing a videoconference with the Collectors newly appointed to 12 districts on Thursday, Mr. Naidu dwelt on delivering effective administration, while staying connected with the public.
“I always say that the Chief Minister is a common man, follow the same principle. Be accessible to people and work with empathy. Strict adherence to rules alone does not yield results. Humane approach matters,” Mr. Naidu advised them. He also stressed the importance of real-time response to issues, rather than relying on fake publicity, or delayed reaction.
Reflecting on his administrative experience, Mr. Naidu highlighted his first term in 1995 and his 15 years as Chief Minister over the past three decades. “I have always pushed officers for performance, even in challenging conditions. When disasters strike, I have been the first to reach the affected areas to ensure government support and instill confidence in people,” he said, citing examples of responses during floods and cyclones in the past.
Mr. Naidu emphasised that Collectors should see their roles as opportunities to effect change at the grassroots level. “Protect government assets, monitor welfare programmes, and inspire your subordinates. Creative, innovative decisions are key. Use Central schemes effectively, compete with other districts, and maintain transparency. A Collector is not a position of power, but a chance to serve as a common man,” he added.
Mr. Naidu reminded the Collectors to balance political governance with administrative integrity, advising them to respect public representatives while prioritising people’s welfare.
“A proactive, accountable, and people-centric approach by the Collectors will not only enhance government performance but also strengthen public trust in administration,” Mr. Naidu observed.
