Anoop Malik, an accused in the Kannapuram blast case that claimed one person’s life, was remanded and shifted to the Kannur special sub-jail on Sunday.
The blast occurred on Saturday at a rented house in Keezhara, where explosives used for illegal firework manufacturing were stored.
Anoop was arrested from Kanhangad on Saturday evening. During questioning, he maintained that he was not directly linked to the explosion.
Investigators said that Anoop, a businessman, had no political connections, contrary to the allegations of the CPI(M) and the Congress.
He had reportedly sought shelter at a friend’s house in Kanhangad and hinted at suicide before his arrest.
The police said the death of Mohammad Asham, his close associate, in the explosion had left him shaken. He has been involved in similar cases earlier too, the police said.
