Fatima Sana Shaikh teams up with Aneet Padda for hard-hitting Nyaya, tackles women’s safety: “I feel safe in the film industry”
Fatima Sana Shaikh opened up about a traumatic personal experience where she was slapped by a man she confronted for touching her inappropriately. “The shock of that moment will remain with me for as long as I live,” recalled Fatima, highlighting how unsafe public spaces can be for women.
However, she emphasized that her professional experience in the film industry has been positive. “I can’t speak for anyone else’s experience. I only know mine, and I’ve been fortunate to work with teams that have been respectful and professional. I feel our film industry today is much more self-aware. There are clearer boundaries, stronger rules in place, and conversations around safety and consent are being taken seriously. That’s a big step forward.”
In her upcoming project titled Nyaya, produced by Applause Entertainment, Fatima steps into a bold new role — that of a cop fighting tooth and nail to obtain justice for a 17-year-old rape victim, played by Saiyaara’s breakout star Aneet Padda.
Fatima shared her excitement about the project: “It is completely new territory for me. And the theme of women’s safety resonates deeply with me. I don’t want any girl to be slapped back when she hits out at a sexual offender.”
