Ramayana Box Office: Maharashtra BEATS Yash’s Karnataka in collections despite selling FEWER tickets; TOP 10 states reveal SURPRISING trends

Ramayana – Part I, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, has collected approximately Rs. 176 crores nett at the Indian box office in its first three days. While the mythological epic has generated substantial business across the country, a detailed state-wise analysis reveals several fascinating trends. Maharashtra has emerged as the film’s highest-grossing market, narrowly beating Karnataka. However, the bigger surprise is that Karnataka has sold more tickets than Maharashtra despite generating lower revenue.

According to the detailed box office data for November 5, 6 and 7, Maharashtra leads with Rs. 32.96 crores nett, followed closely by Karnataka at Rs. 30.29 crores. The National Capital Region (NCR) occupies the third position with Rs. 17.95 crores, while Telangana and Gujarat complete the top five.

Maharashtra No. 1 in revenue, but Karnataka wins the footfall battle
Maharashtra has emerged as Ramayana’s biggest revenue-generating market, contributing approximately 18.73% of the film’s nationwide nett collections.

The state collected Rs. 10.12 crores on Thursday, followed by Rs. 8.55 crores on Friday and a substantial Rs. 14.28 crores on Saturday. Interestingly, Maharashtra witnessed a massive 67.05% jump on Saturday compared with Friday, helping it consolidate its lead over Karnataka. Karnataka, meanwhile, has collected Rs. 30.29 crores over three days, accounting for approximately 17.22% of the nationwide total.

However, the ticket-sales figures tell a different story. Karnataka has sold 7.95 lakh tickets, compared with Maharashtra’s 7.47 lakh tickets. In other words, Karnataka has attracted approximately 47,600 more admissions despite earning Rs. 2.66 crores less.

Maharashtra and Karnataka account for 36% of nationwide business
Together, Maharashtra and Karnataka have generated Rs. 63.25 crores nett over the first three days. This means that just two states account for nearly 36% of Ramayana’s entire domestic collections. Interestingly, Karnataka led Maharashtra on Thursday, collecting Rs. 11.37 crores against Maharashtra’s Rs. 10.12 crores. However, Maharashtra overtook Karnataka on Friday and widened the gap further on Saturday. This indicates that while Karnataka delivered a particularly strong opening, Maharashtra demonstrated greater momentum as the weekend progressed.

NCR takes third position; Telangana beats Gujarat
The National Capital Region (NCR) occupies the third position with Rs. 17.95 crores nett. The territory contributed Rs. 6.06 crores on Thursday, Rs. 4.88 crores on Friday and Rs. 7.01 crores on Saturday, registering a healthy recovery over the weekend. Telangana follows in fourth position with Rs. 13.28 crores, narrowly beating Gujarat’s Rs. 12.78 crores. However, the ticket-sales figures reveal another interesting contrast. Telangana has sold approximately 6.39 lakh tickets, while Gujarat has registered 3.65 lakh admissions. Despite selling roughly 75% more tickets, Telangana’s revenue lead over Gujarat is just Rs. 50 lakh.

Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh complete the next three positions
Tamil Nadu occupies sixth position with Rs. 7.81 crores nett, followed by West Bengal at Rs. 7.43 crores and Uttar Pradesh at Rs. 7.29 crores. Andhra Pradesh ranks ninth with Rs. 7.09 crores, while Kerala completes the top ten with Rs. 6.84 crores. Andhra Pradesh provides another fascinating example of the difference between revenue and admissions. The state has sold approximately 5.45 lakh tickets, substantially more than Gujarat, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, yet ranks below all three in revenue.
