Koffee With Karan 9: Saif Ali Khan recalls being stabbed 10 times during January 2025 attack; says, “Perhaps because of my Hindi cinema instinct, I attacked him in the first place”
Saif Ali Khan recently opened up about the January 2025 attack at his Mumbai residence and recalled how the incident affected his family, particularly his younger son, Jeh. In an emotional revelation, the actor shared that Jeh, who was very young when the incident took place, gave him his plastic sword and asked him to use it if the intruder returned.
Speaking about the incident on the latest episode of Koffee With Karan, Saif recalled how his son viewed him as a protector after witnessing the frightening confrontation. He revealed that Jeh continued to keep the plastic sword with him for a couple of months following the attack.
“Jeh gave me his plastic sword and said, ‘Next time that thief comes, use this. For a couple of months after that, he kind of kept the plastic sword with me… So, the whole thing happened in front of him, the fight and all and he thinks I am a great protector. He thinks I am Iron Man,” Saif said.
During the conversation, host Karan Johar also recalled having to explain the incident to his own children, adding that his son was particularly concerned about Taimur.
Saif further described the severity of his injuries and said the confrontation happened within a very short span of time. Recalling the attack, he said, “I knew I was alright, because I was bleeding. But that is crazy, there was cut in my, that were quite deep and long, like jagged cuts.”
He added, “It was crazy. There were cuts on my neck, I felt there was something in my back, and I had all these injuries from the fall. I was injured and he was fine.”
The actor revealed that the attacker stabbed him around ten times. He also explained that his immediate reaction was driven by the sight of the intruder standing over his young son with a knife.
“He stabbed me about ten times. It all happened very quickly. I think perhaps because of my Hindi cinema instinct, I attacked him in the first place. There was a sense of outrage that he was standing over my son with a knife,” he said.
Saif also recalled how he and his household help, Hari, initially considered confronting the attacker again. They attempted to remove decorative swords hanging on the wall, as they suspected there could be other intruders in the house. However, Kareena Kapoor Khan intervened and insisted that he seek medical attention.
“But when we were going down with the swords to confront him again, Kareena said, ‘Don’t be silly. Get in the lift. We have to get you to a hospital’,” Saif recalled.
Kareena also remembered how badly injured Saif was at the time, revealing that he was bleeding heavily and struggling to walk. She further shared that the incident had a lasting psychological impact on her, as she found it difficult to sleep for nearly six months afterwards.
Reflecting on the experience, Saif emphasised the importance of being cautious and having adequate security arrangements.
“People should be careful. I am sorry to say that in today’s world, but a little bit of security is probably required because I think the world is slightly more unsafe than it was when we were younger,” he said.
For the uninitiated, the incident took place in January 2025 when an intruder entered Saif and Kareena’s Mumbai residence and attacked the actor with a knife. Saif sustained multiple stab injuries, including wounds to his neck and back. He was subsequently taken to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent surgery.
