Ramayana Day 1 box office PREDICTION: Trade expects an opening of Rs. 60-70 cr in Hindi and Rs. 100 cr in all languages: “Yash’s mere presence and the fact that he’s playing such a strong character will ensure Rs. 40 cr from South”
Less than a week remains before the release of Ramayana, and the trade and industry eagerly await whether the film will live up to the gigantic expectations. Though touted as a Diwali release, the film arrives in cinemas on November 5, four days before the festival. Nevertheless, thanks to the tremendous response to its advance bookings, the film is expected to take a massive opening of Rs. 60-70 crores, as per trade estimates.

Trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, “The advance booking is very good. As the release day nears, the advance will again pick up and will be huge. Let’s not underestimate spot bookings. That can contribute a big chunk to the final total.”
Trade analyst Atul Mohan agreed with the expectation, “It is possible for the film to earn Rs. 60-70 crores. It is a Diwali release, when people go to cinemas. For many years, it’s common to see the biggest films being announced as a Diwali release. The release period automatically increases the hype for those films. Hence, it’s also a matter of prestige to bring your film on the Festival of Light. The salaried class receives a bonus and, as a result, spending capacity increases. So, people don’t mind splurging on shopping, meals, movies, etc.”
Distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal predicted, “It’ll collect more than Rs. 60 crores. However, the pre-Diwali period is a major dent for the box office. Hence, they have taken a bold decision by coming on November 5. It shows their confidence in the film. I knew from the start that yeh film kuch kamaal karegi. I was expecting an opening of Rs. 100 crores on day 1 since I assumed that it would release on the day after Diwali, which is a big holiday. Nevertheless, it could still touch Rs. 100 crores on November 9, the day after the festival. This figure won’t be reached on the release day, however.”
Vishek Chauhan, owner of Roopbani Cinema in Purnia, Bihar, focused on the all-India day 1 number, “The advances are very good. I think the minimum number I am looking at is Rs. 100 crore plus for day 1 India. Yash is a big draw in the South. His mere presence and the fact that he’s playing such a strong character will ensure a Rs. 40 crores collection on the day of release in the Southern states. In fact, if it opens below Rs. 100 crores, I’ll be disappointed. I think anywhere between Rs. 100 crore and Rs. 125 crore is what I am looking at on Day 1. It is officially the biggest opener from North India.”
He also proved his point by giving the instance of Adipurush (2023), “Adipurush’s trailer was trolled and yet, it opened at Rs. 35 crores in Hindi and achieved a similar number in Telugu. All India day 1 was close to Rs. 100 crores. Adipurush was also based on the same topic but Ramayana looks far better. The hype is also tremendous.”
He added, “Everything is going in favour of Ramayana – the casting, the scale, the grandeur, hype, marketing, buzz, etc. Before India, the film has premiered in America and the critics there are raving. We have a ‘firangi obsession’ – if they like it, we tend to get influenced! The only sore thumb in Ramayana is its music.”
Vishek further remarked, “The ticket prices are steep. Every cinema hall will be showing the film. There are no other releases in Hindi. By the sheer hype that the film has, it’ll get shows in regional cinemas down South as well, though there are a few major releases there.”
Taran Adarsh signed off by saying, “It’s a very, very important film. A lot of money is riding on it, the star cast is huge, the stakes are high and it’s a massive Diwali release. But more than that, there are sentiments and emotions attached to this subject. Nevertheless, I am very, very confident. Adipurush took a lot of cinematic liberties. I genuinely hope that the makers of Ramayana have not done the same. The VFX will be grand, but I hope they get the emotions and soul right. We all know what the story is; what I am looking forward to is the storytelling and how they have presented it on screen.”
