Richa Chadha teams up with Sneha Khanwalkar for Musafiri title track; actor calls composer her “lucky charm”
Richa Chadha has joined hands with acclaimed music composer Sneha Khanwalkar for the title track of her upcoming non-fiction series Musafiri. The series, which explores India’s diverse cultures and lesser-known stories, will feature an original composition by Sneha, who has also lent her voice to the track.
Known for bringing a distinctive musical sensibility to projects such as Gangs of Wasseypur and the travel-based series Sound Trippin’, Sneha has created a title track that complements the spirit of Musafiri. The collaboration also marks another creative association between the actor and the composer, who have shared a professional connection across different phases of Richa’s career.
Speaking about working with Sneha again, Richa described the composer as a close friend and reflected on their long-standing association. She also spoke about the qualities she enjoys in the new composition. “I am proud to call Sneha a friend and if India has a thousand stories, Sneha will probably find the soundtrack for all of them. I love the humming, curious, sometimes mischievous and sometimes lullaby like quality of the song. My first film as an actor was Oye Lucky, which also marked her debut. My first film as a producer, Girls will be Girls featured a song from Sneha and now my first as a creator. She really is my lucky charm”
Sneha, meanwhile, spoke about Richa’s approach to creating ‘Musafiri’ and revealed how the title track came together. According to the composer, the initial musical idea was developed into a song with lyrics written by Richa herself.
“Richa is an independent voice! And she’s brought her journalistic education into a brilliant, engaging and entertaining show ‘Musafiri’ that takes you through landscapes we have been watching closely but never known so deeply. When she told me to make a title song for it, I gave her a basic rhythmic track with a cue singing in gibberish. She then herself wrote the lyrics over it for me to record with. It’s always fun working with Richa.”
With Musafiri, Richa steps into the role of creator, bringing together her interest in storytelling and travel through a series centred on India’s varied cultural identities. The collaboration with Sneha adds a musical dimension to the project, with the title track setting the tone for its exploration of the country’s many stories and landscapes.
