EXCLUSIVE: ‘Sholay: The Final Cut’ GRAND live concert screening planned in Mumbai after SOLD-OUT London premiere; OTT release pushed to October 2028
One of the greatest films of Indian cinema, Sholay (1975), was re-released in cinemas on December 12, 2025. Titled ‘Sholay: The Final Cut’, it showcased the original ending for the first time on the big screen. It also included two additional deleted scenes that formed part of the original cut. Moreover, the film was restored in 4K and Dolby 5.1, retaining its original 70mm aspect ratio of 2.2:1 as well as R D Burman’s original music. The journey of Sholay: The Final Cut now continues post its initial theatrical release. Shehzad Sippy, head of Sippy Films, in partnership with UK-based ESK, recently organized its ‘Films in Concert’ world premiere at London’s prestigious Royal Albert Hall on October 10, 2026. The event saw Melvin Tay conducting the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, which performed R D Burman’s iconic score live as the film played on the big screen.
A source told Bollywood Hungama, “It was a sold-out event and was attended by a whopping 5,200 people. Viewers were mesmerized to experience the restored classic on the big screen in all its glory, accompanied by a live orchestral performance of its legendary score. It also became the first Hindi film to be presented in such a format at Royal Albert Hall. The overwhelming response has motivated Shehzad and his team to organise more such shows of Sholay: The Final Cut. The next screening is taking place on November 1, 2026, at Birmingham Hippodrome in Birmingham, which has a seating capacity of 1,850.”
Those wishing to experience Sholay: The Final Cut in this unique live format in India have reason to celebrate. The source revealed, “The makers are already planning a grand show in Mumbai. Once the venue and date are finalized, an official announcement will be made.”
Meanwhile, Bollywood Hungama has also learned that Sippy Films is in no hurry to bring Sholay: The Final Cut to OTT. The source revealed, “Sholay: The Final Cut has been meticulously restored for the big screen. Hence, the makers want audiences to experience this iconic film in cinemas or in the spectacular live concert format, as witnessed at Royal Albert Hall. As a result, they have decided to hold back its streaming release until October 2028.”
