India Ke Top 1%: Anil Kapoor says daughter Sonam Kapoor gives him “tough competition” at family game nights
Anil Kapoor may be testing contestants’ reasoning and general awareness on India Ke Top 1%, but the actor has revealed that he faces some stiff competition at home too. The host shared that his wife Sunita Kapoor and daughters Sonam Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor regularly join him for family game nights, with Sonam emerging as the one who gets most of the answers right.

Speaking about how the show has become part of his family’s routine, Anil Kapoor said, “We play along at home too! Sunita, Sonam and Rhea join in at the dinner table, and Sonam gets most answers right. I may host the show, but she gives me tough competition! For me, that’s the biggest win: bringing families together and turning an ordinary evening into a game night.”
The actor also thanked viewers for embracing the show, which has emerged as the biggest family game show launch in a decade, based on non-celebrity game show launches on JioHotstar. Since its premiere on September 19, India Ke Top 1% has celebrated three winners in its first six episodes, with Bijal Shah winning Rs. 94 lakhs in the opening episode.
Expressing gratitude for the response, Anil added, “The response to India Ke Top 1% has been phenomenal! Messages have been pouring in from across the country and seeing that love reflected in the numbers makes this start even more special. Thank you for making us part of your family time and game nights with friends. Keep the love coming!”
The show’s reach has extended beyond television, with over 220,000 viewers joining the Play Along experience on JioHotstar. The feature allows audiences to participate from home and compete for prizes, including smartphones and Smart TVs, bringing an additional layer of interaction to the weekend viewing experience.
Produced by Banijay Asia in association with BBC Studios UK, India Ke Top 1% places logic, observation, reasoning and common sense at the centre of its format. The questions are designed to encourage family members to participate together, discuss possible answers and test their thinking skills.
Deepak Dhar, Founder and Group CEO of Banijay Asia, said, “The success of India Ke Top 1% reflects the power of a format that brings intelligence, entertainment and family participation together. What’s particularly encouraging is how the Play Along feature is extending the experience beyond the television screen, turning viewers into active participants and bringing the excitement of the game into homes across the country. It’s exciting to see audiences embrace the show so enthusiastically, and this is only the beginning of its journey in India.”
Alongside the quiz format, Anil’s interactions with contestants have brought personal stories into the spotlight. Episodes have featured Bittu Tabahi’s river-cleaning efforts and Mumbai auto driver Sandeep Bachche’s acts of service. The show has also featured on Dubai’s Burj Khalifa as part of JioHotstar’s expansion into the MENA region.
India Ke Top 1% airs every Saturday and Sunday at 8 PM on Star Plus and is available to stream on JioHotstar.
