Himesh Reshammiya reveals why he REJECTS films without romantic songs: “There’ll be an expectation because of my brand”; says romantic tracks get 10 TIMES more views
Himesh Reshammiya recently had a conversation with Komal Nahta and revealed why he flatly refuses to compose music for films that don’t have a situation for a romantic song. He explained, “There are films in which there are songs between friends or between a brother and sister. I am clear that I want to do romantic songs. So, if I am offered a film where there’s no romantic song between the hero and heroine, I say, ‘Mujhe nahin karni. Mujhe maaf kar do’! I am very clear that I need to compose romantic songs. Also, such songs get 10 times more (views and streams).”
He added, “I like doing romantic songs. I am very good at it. But if there’s a beautiful situational song about two friends and the remaining four tracks are romantic, that’s not a problem. However, I’ll decline if the makers state that there’s no situation for a romantic track.”
Himesh further explained the reasoning behind his unusual condition, saying, “When I compose music for a film, there’ll be an expectation because of my brand. Now, when I fail to deliver the numbers, they’ll say, ‘Romantic gaana nahin tha isliye nahin chala’.”
In the same interview, Himesh also revealed that he had developed a habit of maintaining a bank of ready songs and tunes even before making his Bollywood debut with Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya (1998).
He recalled, “I have ready songs in my bank. When David Dhawan ji approached me for Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge (2000), we locked as many as seven songs in just two hours. Chapter closed! I could even offer 40 more songs, and then you could take those songs to people to get their feedback. However, it would only add to your confusion.”
He continued, “Similarly, in just one sitting, we finalised each and every song of Humraaz (2002) with Abbas bhai and Mustan bhai. That’s because I gave them their whole world and setting of the film through the songs.”
