Anil Kapoor reveals Sonam Kapoor bought her own flat with her savings after Saawariya break: “Mujhe kharidne ki zaroorat hi nahi padi”

Actor Anil Kapoor recently shared a personal anecdote about daughter Sonam Kapoor on India Ke Top 1% – The Anil Kapoor Show. During an upcoming episode featuring Anupamaa star Rupali Ganguly, a conversation about women owning their own homes prompted Anil to recall how Sonam bought a flat with her own earnings early in her career after Saawariya, without requiring financial assistance from him.

Anil Kapoor reveals Sonam Kapoor bought her own flat with her savings after Saawariya break: “Mujhe kharidne ki zaroorat hi nahi padi”

The conversation began with Rupali discussing her character Anupama’s aspiration to own a home. Speaking about the importance of financial independence and having a space of one’s own, the actress said, “Duniya mein ek kona aisa ho jo sirf hamara apna ho. Har aurat ko khud ki kamai se, khud ke pairon par khade hokar apna ek ghar banana chahiye, chhota sa hi sahi (There should be a corner in the world that belongs solely to us. Every woman should stand on her own feet and build a home of her own with her hard-earned money, even if it is a small one).”

Responding to her remarks, Anil recalled how Sonam had managed to purchase a home through her own efforts. “Sonam ne apne khud ke paise se apna ghar banaya. Mujhe kharidne ki zaroorat hi nahi padi. Khud apni mehnat se banaya (Sonam bought her own home with her own money. I didn’t have to buy it for her. She built it through her own hard work),” Anil shared.

The actor then spoke about the early stages of Sonam’s career, including her time studying in Singapore and subsequently working with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. He explained how she gradually saved the money she earned before purchasing her own flat.

“Woh aayi Singapore se padh ke aur Bhansali sahab ki assistant bani. Bhansali sahab ne usse break diya. Thode-thode paise jama karke unhone apna ek khud ka flat kharida (She returned after studying in Singapore and became an assistant to Mr. Bhansali. Mr. Bhansali gave her her break. She saved money little by little and bought a flat of her own),” he added.

Sonam made her acting debut opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Bhansali’s Saawariya, which released in 2007. Before stepping in front of the camera as an actor, she worked as an assistant director on Bhansali’s Black. Her early association with the filmmaker preceded her transition to acting, marking the beginning of her journey in Hindi cinema.

Anil’s recollection highlighted a milestone from that phase of Sonam’s life, with the actor emphasising that she used her own savings to purchase a home. The anecdote also tied into the episode’s wider discussion about women achieving financial independence and working towards owning property.

Meanwhile, India Ke Top 1% – The Anil Kapoor Show continues to combine quiz-based entertainment with conversations and personal anecdotes from its host and celebrity guests.
