Jailer 2 screening halted at York Cinemas in North America; theatre blames missing KDMs
Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer 2 has encountered a screening disruption in North America, with York Cinemas announcing that the film will no longer be screened at its premises effective Wednesday, October 21, 2026. In a statement, the cinema attributed the decision to circumstances beyond its control and said that the valid Key Delivery Messages (KDMs) required to continue screenings had not been provided by the film’s North American distributors, Shloka Entertainments and Prathyangira Cinemas, following the required authorization from production house Sun Pictures.
The cinema also maintained that it had fulfilled all the required financial commitments and payments. Without valid KDMs, it said, continuing screenings was technically impossible. York Cinemas added that it had made efforts to resolve the matter and continue showing the film, but the necessary authorization had not been received. In its statement, York Cinemas said, “We regret to inform you that Jailer 2 will no longer be screening at York Cinemas effective Wednesday, October 21, 2026. This decision is due to circumstances beyond the control of York Cinemas.
“Although York Cinemas has fulfilled all required financial commitments and payments, the valid KDMs (Key Delivery Messages) required to continue screening the film have not been provided by the North American distributors, Shloka Entertainments and Prathyangira Cinemas, following the required authorization from the production company, Sun Pictures. Without valid KDMs, we are technically unable to continue screening the film. We want our patrons to know that York Cinemas has made every effort to resolve this matter and continue the screenings, but unfortunately, the necessary authorization has not been received. We sincerely apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience this may cause and truly appreciate your understanding, patience, and continued support of York Cinemas,” added the note.
Written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 is a Tamil-language action crime drama backed by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner. The sequel features Rajinikanth reprising his role as retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, alongside an ensemble cast that includes Sivakarthikeyan, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa Menon and Vasanth Ravi. Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar also feature in high-profile cameo appearances, while Anirudh Ravichander has composed the music.
Following the events of the 2023 film, the sequel returns to Muthuvel Pandian’s world as he confronts a dangerous underworld network and renewed threats to his family. Jailer 2 arrived in worldwide cinemas on October 15, 2026.
The circumstances surrounding the North American screening disruption remain centred on the authorization and KDM issue outlined by York Cinemas. Further clarification from the distributors or production house is awaited.
